19th Century Bronze Aquamanile, Waterspout, Fountain, in the Form of a Canine, Dog. Berlin Germany, ca. 1850. Pleasing face with wide eye, pricked ears, and standing on all fours. Spout emerges from mouth. Ex: Berlin Art Market. In very good condition. 5" high x 5" long. In modern usage, an aquamanile is a ewer or jug-type vessel in the form of one or more animal or human figures. It usually contained water for the washing of hands over a basin, which was part of both upper-class meals and the Christian Eucharist.
