Near Eastern Islamic, Seljuk, Bronze Figure of a Lion, Central Asia Minor, ca. 1200 - 1300 CE. Large hollow eyes and curly mane. Standing with feet on base. In excellent condition. 1 3/4" x 2 1/4" x 1 1/2". Ex: S. Beiner collection, Florida. The Seljuk Empire or Great Seljuq Empire was a medieval Turko-Persian Sunni Muslim empire, originating from the Qiniq branch of Oghuz Turks. The Seljuk Empire controlled a vast area stretching from the Hindu Kush to western Anatolia and the Levant, and from Central Asia to the Persian Gulf.
