Rare Maya Chama Polychrome Cylinder Vessel
Rare Maya Polychrome Cylinder Vessel, Chama, Late Classic Period ca. 600 - 800 CE. Found in vicinity of the village of Chama, a highland river valley of Guatemala. Chama painted figures are generally rigid, stiff and standing, but this rare vessel has bilaterial scenes of animated dancing Lords clad in elaborate headdresses adorned with plumes, beaded jewelry and textile loincloths. Naturalistic bodies with exaggerated facial features. Ceramic fragments meticulously reassembled by professional conservator. In very good condition. 7 1/2" high with mouth 4 1/4" diameter. Ex: John Fulling collection, Florida. Vetted by noted author and Maya expert Dr. Francis Robiczek.
