Carved Sandstone head of a Jain Tirthankara (Jina) a human who achieves enlightenment (perfect knowledge) through asceticism. From a larger grouping or frieze, his face with thoughtful expression, arched eyebrows, slit eyes, curled hairdress, some damage to nose and mouth area, on custom stand, Northern India, circa 11th Century C.E., 7 1/4" high.
