Monumental Canosan Pottery Figural Vase, Apulia Italy, ca. 3rd Century BCE, 19 1/4" high. Canosan vases combine the arts of the potter and the maker of terracotta figurines. Most are on a grand scale and coated in white slip and painted in vivid blues, yellows and pinks and are further adorned with moulded attachments such as figures of Victory, winged horses or Medusa heads.
