Rare Egyptian Inscribed Vessel with Demotic Script, circa 500 BCE. Exterior covered with 19 lines of painted demotic script in black ink. Bulbous form, red brown pottery jar on round base. Tapered neck and wide rim. 10 3/4" high. Intact with faded script that is difficult to decipher, but otherwise in excellent condition.
From the Age of the Patriarchs. Middle Bronze Age I Tell el - Yahudiyeh ware juglet, found in modern day Egypt but made by Canaanite slaves, ca. 1800 BCE. The distinctive ware is characterized by the punctured design arranged in geometric patterns. Used for luxury items such as perfumed oils. Named after Tell el - Yahudiyeh in the Nile Delta, where W. F. Petrie first uncovered such juglets. Intact and in excellent condition. 4 1/4" high
