Whimsical dog with bulbous eyes, perked ears, protruding muzzle and toothy smile with attached grayware whistling vessel. Footed bottom with cylindrical shaft, twin opposing lugs near upper rim. Black and cream pigment. Chip to vases inner rim and base and left ear of dog. Intact and in excellent condition. Circa 800 - 1200 C.E., 10 3/8" high.
This large wheel thrown storage jar from Southwestern Iran has a buff spherical body with a short neck and a wide mouth. The shoulder is decorated with two spread wing eagles facing left and two smaller birds in profile. The remainder of the body is ornamented with wavy lines. This particular eagle design has been found on numerous vessels excavated in Susa and nearby sites between 2400 and 2200 B.C. Some minor chips to ridge and some incrustation; otherwise in wonderful shape.

FULLY TRANSLATED, this bowl asks for health and welfare of dwelling of Nihye, son of Niway and Mihroy daughter of Maskoy. Intact with earthen encrustation due to age. Entirely legible script pigment, and in excellent condition. 11" diameter.
Maya Mold made Pottery Bottle depicting Mesoamerican deity Quetzalcoatl, meaning "feathered serpent." With elaborate headdresses on front and reverse side, double rows of glyphs on rounded sides believed to be the calendar.
