Pottery Rattle, Hellenistic Period ca. 330 - 63 BCE, found in the Holy Land. Cylindrical shape with flaring ends with pottery ball bearing inside for rattle. 3 1/2" long and in excellent condition. Among the first gifts that a child received were games and small objects that were hung from the neck as amulets. Rattles (shakers), crotala (platages), piggy-banks in the shape of a pig, etc were all included in these first games.
